Scholars' Bowl results! The background is an assortment of different images vaguely related to Scholars' Bowl.

Having won first place at their KSHSAA Division 1 Regional, Clay Guttery, Kate Kendig, Grace William, Wyatt Wilson, and Mary Carlin traveled to Lincoln Kansas to compete in the KSHSAA State Varsity Scholars Bowl.  It was below-freezing Saturday, February 15 when this team of seasoned Scholars competed in this KSHSAA-sanctioned event hosted by Lincoln High School.  This was the third Scholars Bowl in a week that was hosted by Lincoln so they were well practiced and prepared to host this prestigious high stakes final High School Varsity Scholars Bowl of the season.  Parents of the OHS team, as well as other fans, and our administrators Mr. Osak and Mr. Wilson, were on hand to cheer (figuratively speaking, you can't cheer at a Scholars Bowl) on the Bulldogs.  It can be readily said that Mr. Orsak can bear the cold better than most.

Aw, so what happened one might ask.  In their previous times of competing in the KSHSAA State competition, the Bulldogs went home following the preliminary rounds having come up short in too many regular rounds.  This year the Bulldog team did two firsts.  They only lost one round in the regular rounds, which was against Wichita Independent, thus OHS made it into the final rounds for the first time.  Secondly, they placed third in the final rounds bringing home a bronze medal and a third place KSHSAA plaque.  In the final rounds, the OHS team lost to Wichita Independent High School, which earned 1st place,e and Centralia High School which achieved 2nd place.  It was something to see such proud parents and fans at the conclusion of this final competition of the season.  I believe there were several gigabytes worth of pictures taken today. So to reiterate what had been mentioned previously, congratulations parents and teachers on shaping and molding such young adults who are competitive, respectful, determined, and knowledgeable.  It is young people like these that can make a community and country great.

So now we come to it again.  The end of a season.  One in which there is more solemnity than usual because we have more seniors.  This year we have seniors, Clay Guttery, Kate Kendig, Grace William, and Wyatt Wilson launching into their future beyond high school.  These seniors are leaving behind quite a legacy for the underclassmen to follow in future Scholars Bowl.  So we wish our seniors well and look forward to what the future has in store for them.  We are going to keep Mary, though, for a little while longer so we will see what next fall holds.

With that, we will say adieu, happy trails, and God Bless.

 Go dogs!!
