The Osborne Robotics Club kicked off their season with a fantastic performance at the Beloit Lego Holiday Competition on Tuesday Dec 10th.  The competition was attended by 139 students from 7 different schools. The Competition hosted 5 unique events for robots to compete in.  Of these 5 events, the Osborne Robotics Club took 1st place in 2, and brought home 8 out of the 16 medals awarded.

Unfortunately the event that we did extremely well in last year, The Maze, was not included in the event line-up.  However, we were able to fine tune the programming of our remote controls to take 1st, 2nd, & 3rd in the obstacle course.  This event required programming our digital remote controls to most effectively enable our robots to traverse a series of obstacles and race to the finish.

The events that we were able to participate in included; “Knock over the Grinch” (a race to knock a target off of the designated playing area), “Follow the Present” (a race using reflective light sensors to follow a black line from start to finish), “Santa’s Present Sorter” (a timed event using multiple sensors to follow a line and sort colored items at the same time), “Reindeer Race” (a timed obstacle course around cones and through a gate to the finish), and “Santa Sumo” (a head-to-head battle against other robots to see who can stay in the ring”.

Eve Mick & Karter Mans took 1st place in the Reindeer Race and 1st place in Santa's Present Sorter.

Isaac Mick & Grayson Rietzke took 2nd place in the Reindeer Race and 2nd place in Knock Over the Grinch.

Frankie Delaney & Katherine Cook took 3rd place in the Reindeer Race and 2nd place in Follow the Present.

Aubrey Gasper & Tru Schultz took 3rd place in Santa's Present Sorter.

Carter Delaney, Payson Sigle, Allanna Lecuyer & Tyler Herrman competed with scores very close to placing in multiple events.

After the competition scores were all tallied Eve Mick & Karter Mans were also able to bring home the 1st place overall best team score.

All said, it was a great day to be a Bulldog and to show everyone that Osborne has some talented young aspiring engineers. Please take some time to watch some of the events and the awards ceremony at the links provided below.

The Osborne Robotics team would like to thank McFadden Charitable Trust for sponsoring our t-shirts this year!
