The Osborne Junior High Eighth Grade Scholars Bowl Team competed at the PTL Scholars Bowl held at Lakeside on February 5, 2024. They faced some tough teams and had some ups and downs, but their teamwork and spirit never wavered.
In the first round, Osborne took on Paradise and came out on top with a score of 50 to 30. That was a great start but then the going got tough. They lost to Thunder Ridge, Sylvan/Lucas, Rock Hills, and Lakeside in the following rounds. The Ghost Round found the team earning 30 points as all were allowed to compete.
Deecon Dill was the leading scorer with 55 points. Camrun Taylor wasn't far behind with 50 points, and Klaire Eilert added another 30 to the scoreboard. Olivia Mans and Taryn Ellenz each contributed 20 points, while Peyton Clark chipped in 10 points. Also competing were Gentrie Riner and Chloe Hougaard.
In an exciting series of matches, the 7th Grade Osborne Scholars Bowl Team showcased their knowledge and teamwork against their pool of PTL teams. Their journey began with a victory against Paradise, where they dominated by a score of 60 to 0 with Kimber contributing 40 points to the overall score.
In their subsequent match against Thunder Ridge, the Osborne 7th Grade Scholars Bowl Team secured another win with a score of 50-20. However, they faced a setback in Round 3 when they narrowly lost to Sylvan/Lucas with a score of 15 to 20. They rallied back in their following match against Rock Hills, winning with a score of 50 to 40.
Their next match was against Miltonvale, where they clinched a decisive victory with a score of 60-0. Stormy contributed 40 points to the team's success. Despite facing a formidable opponent in Lakeside, the team displayed a commendable effort, although they fell short with a score of 20 to 80.
Leading the charge for the Osborne Scholars Bowl Team were Stormy Guttery and Kimber Barfield, with Stormy emerging as the top scorer with an impressive tally of 100 points, followed by Kimber with 55 points and Ben Schultz close behind, earning 50 points for the team. Hallie Mick and Libbie Carlin each scored 20 points, while Kassidy Heller & Lainey Kendig contributed to the team's efforts. Although the team narrowly missed making it to the finals due to a head-to-head loss against Lakeside, their performance throughout the competition demonstrated their dedication and talent.
With their sights set on future challenges, the Osborne 8th and 7th Grade Scholars Bowl Teams are gearing up for their next meet at Tescott on February 12th starting at 4:00 pm. The teams will round out their season with back to back competition at Stockton on February 26th beginning at 4:30 pm and at Hill City on February 27th starting at 4:00 pm.
