The Osborne Robotics Club wrapped up their season with a very exciting performance at the FHSU Lego Robotics competition on April 3rd. The competition was attended by 24 different robotics clubs with a combined registration of 108 teams. The ballroom was packed with excited students and whirling, spinning robots. Fortunately, everyone survived and came home with some stories to tell.
The Osborne Robotics Club’s strongest performance, by far, was automated navigation of a life-sized maze using compass, touch and ultrasonic sensors. Sixty One teams competed in this event, but Osborne was able to sweep First, Second, Third and Fourth places!
“The Pants” (Hallie Mick, Ayva Kuhlmann & Carter Delaney) took First Place in Maze.
The “Red Rovers” (Ryder Lyon, Isaac Mick & Kirsten Mans) took Second Place in Maze.
“Team Star” (Kassidy Heller, Kymber Heller & Lincoln Lane) took Third Place in Maze.
“Bad Apples” (Stormy Guttery, Korbin Heller & Tierney Lutters) took Fourth Place in Maze.
“The Pants” (Hallie Mick, Ayva Kuhlmann & Carter Delaney) also took Second Place (out of 40 teams) in Sorting Colors by swiftly organizing M&Ms with color detection. Other highlights included a strong performance from “Mr Tank” (Frankie Delaney & John Rielle) in the Whoops event where their robot swiftly traversed a series of PVC rungs. As well as the “Bad Apples” (Stormy Guttery, Korbin Heller & Tierney Lutters) making it into the Elite Eight of the Sumo Bot competition (out of 91 competing teams). Along with the “Bad Apples” strong Sumo performance our other teams were able to advance deep into the bracket with a total of 10 Osborne Sumo victories.
As the events were completed, each team was awarded points based on event performance. The grand finale was when “The Pants” (Hallie Mick, Ayva Kuhlmann & Carter Delaney) was awarded Best Team Overall for having the most points out of all 108 teams at the competition!
Chris Mick and Bobbie Schurr (coaches) would like to extend gratitude and a heartfelt thanks to the students who poured so much time and effort into this season as well as to the parents who were able to get students to early morning and weekend development sessions. Your efforts and support have paid off in a big way this season. We are excited to see what these young engineers have yet to accomplish!
