Osborne County students participated in the Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge today hosted by Osborne Jr/Sr High.
Through a partnership with Kansas State University and Network Kansas, the students from both Osborne and Lakeside spent the last five months completing a curriculum which promoted entrepreneurship and small business development. From there, they created their own business, developed a business plan, composed a sales pitch, and constructed a display to market their product.
Two weeks ago, the students submitted their executive summaries to the first panel of online judges for evaluation. Today, they presented to two separate groups of judges; one for their displays in the trade show portion and the other for their sales pitches in the formal presentation. The school and community was also able to vote for People's Choice as they visited with the participants this morning in the gym.
Winners for today's event were as follows...
- People's Choice - $100: A Taste of Africa, Chloe Hougaard
- 4th place - $200: Twisted Twine, Camrun Taylor
- 3rd place - $300: Made in Minutes, Hallie Mick
- 2nd place - $400: Limestone Egg Co., Lainey Kendig
- 1st place - $500: Hometown Hellos, Claire Mick
One winner from the event will have a spot secured at the Kansas Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 20th in Manhattan, KS. Other participants are encouraged to enter the next level by applying for a Wildcard entry. With over $60,000 available in cash prizes, the students have an outstanding opportunity to be rewarded for all of their hard work these last few months!
